Looking back at the BABOK Introduction session of 2020

On February 4th, the IIBA Brussels Chapter launched its second series of the BABOK Study Group. The IIBA Brussels Chapter is proud to look back at a very interactive and inspiring session with enthusiastic participants. Continue reading to explore the topics which were discussed.

The initiation of the first session was given by the IIBA Brussels Chapter Joint-President, followed by an introduction to two Knowledge Areas ("Elicitation & Collaboration" and "Strategy Analysis") by Robin Smets, the IIBA Brussels Chapter responsible for Professional Development.

Introduction to BABOK

After an explanation of the Key Concepts and Underlying competencies of the business analyst, the BACC Model was revealed. We were then surprised by the Requirements Classification, which according to BABOK requirements are subdivided into Business Requirements, Stakeholder Requirements, Solution Requirements, and Transition Requirements. The introduction section was concluded by a high-level overview of the various Knowledge Areas as discussed in the BABOK as well as their mutual relationship.

Then the two chapters were explained that will be discussed extensively in the 2nd session: "Elicitation & Collaboration" and "Strategy Analysis". It indicated which tasks can be performed to obtain information from the shareholders and to confirm the results, as well as communication with the shareholders once the Business analysis information was assembled. Subsequently, the importance of the AS-IS and TO-BE analysis was explained. Followed by the importance of the risk assessment. To conclude with the contribution of the Business Analyst to the Change Strategy within a company.
